I am a big fan of utilizing the entire animal - from nose-to-tail (part of the reason I started my tallow skincare!) I am offering organ meats at a low price because these are just an extra little bonus that comes off the animal, still packed with nutrients!

From our pastures to your plate: Grass-fed and finished, free of added growth hormones/steroids. No antibiotics used (although we are an antibiotic friendly farm when we see fit!) Ethically and intentionally grown. Harvested only when the grass is green and luscious, adding even more of a fresh taste! Starting with only ground beef, brisket, bones + organ sales this summer. Next summer we will have much more options and will try to line up a shipping company to bring beef orders right to your doorstep! (Calgary area)

About our farm: We are the Heckle family - a fifth generation family farm located just outside of Strathmore, Alberta. We have been ranching for many years, but recently have moved to a more regenerative, slow and natural approach. We are passionate about grass-fed and finished beef. Our cattle graze freely on open pasture the way nature intended. Many of our acres are native pasture land - never touched by machinery. Our beef is rich in flavor, nutrient-dense, and a true taste of the Alberta prairies. From our pastures to your plate, we’re honoured to share a piece of our family’s legacy with you.

Know your terminology :

Grass-fed: fed grasses in its first year and typically finished on a grain diet in a feedlot

Grass FINISHED: raised on grass and hay its entire life, never leaving our family farm to enter a feedlot system

We love all sides of the beef industry and believe conventional is very much needed, but there is also a demand and need for slower, more intentionally raised beef as well!

Why grass-finished?

Nutrition - most commercial beef is produced by moving weaned calves into feedlots, where they are finished on heavy grain rations and harvested between 18 and 24  months. Our approach is different - we believe exceptional beef comes from raising cattle the way nature intended - the way bovine once grazed the plains for thousands of years. Our animals live on open pasture with their herd, never leaving our family farm, grazing grass for their entire lives and finishing closer to 30 months of age. This slower, more natural process allows the beef to develop proper marbling while still remaining lean, high in protein, and nutrient dense. Grass-fed and finished beef is not only richer in flavour than grain-fed beef, but it also offers important nutritional advantages: It contains higher levels of vitamins A, B1, B2, and E, higher in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and potassium, it is lower in total fat content, higher in protein, and lower in calories.  The biggest difference is the higher omega 3 fatty acids - one of the most important nutrients in our diet. Studies have shown grass-finished beef to have 2 to 6 times more compared to conventional beef! New studies are coming out every year helping us discover the nutritional benefits of beef grown naturally.

Environment -  beyond nutrition, grass-fed and finished beef also supports the health of the land. When managed properly, cattle grazing grasslands closely mirrors the natural movement of large ruminant herds that historically shaped these ecosystems. This process helps regenerate the plains by returning organic matter to the soil, improving water retention, increasing plant diversity, and supporting wildlife habitat. Our land was powder dry when we mono-cropped it for many decades. Blowing away in the wind each fall after harvest. We could see the layers of earth literally disappearing each year. Fence-lines made 100 years ago are two feet above the crop land beside it. That is the norm for farms in this area. As soon as we went back to pasture land, it started producing its own soil again, with root systems and plant coverage that actually holds the very little moisture we receive here in Alberta. Grazing cattle also help control invasive and non-native plant species, allowing native grasses and plants to thrive. As a result, well-managed pasture systems often support greater biodiversity and soil health than land left ungrazed or mono cropped.

Happy Cows -  I have had a special love for animals since I could talk. For many years I actually ate a vegetarian diet because I did not personally like the way conventional beef production treated cattle. I had toured many feedlots, went to agriculture production school, and also toured slaughter facilities. Although I understood why it is needed at such a large scale to feed the population, and I don't protest the feedlot system like I do see many grassfed farms do, it just never sat well in my heart and that is a personal belief. After learning about regenerative agriculture about 3 years ago, seeing the proof in front of my eyes with our soil health, tasting the beef myself and falling back in love with it, we, as a family decided to jump full force into beef production in a way that makes us feel amazing about our land and our animals.  Choosing to raise grass-fed and finished beef without added hormones, steroids, or grain was an easy decision for us.  Our goal is to produce beef of the highest quality while respecting the animals and instead of aiming for profits only.

Restaurants? Stores? Please reach out. We are only able to move a few animals a year with our online sales. We would love to work with more companies who are looking for grass finished beef. We have the potential to finish upwards of 200 animals a year if we can find the target consumers!

Highland beef is coming summer 2027! Highland cattle are a heritage breed that has stayed true to its roots for hundreds of years. Highlands produce beef that’s higher in protein and iron, lower in cholesterol, and incredibly tender. It’s a premium old-fashioned beef experience, just the way our ancestors liked it!
