LIMITED FALL EDITION
2 oz - mostly home grown ingredients, so I have made the price as affordable as I can for you guys on this specific batch!
Ingredients: alberta grass fed and finished beef tallow (our own fat harvested in august!!) infused with homegrown sweetgrass + foraged wild sage, organic jojoba oil, rosehip oil, olive squalane, + vitamin e oil NOTE - honey is on the label but I chose to keep it out of this batch**
Another special infusion that ended up being a 30 day process - first collecting and drying the herbs, then carefully rendering the tallow - a slow, meticulous process to avoid beefy smell but preserve the nutrients, EXTRA special this batch with my own beef fat - then a 15 day infusion on low heat. Finally whipping and jarring!!
Fouin dodeur + L’aarbr saent in Michif, the language of the Métis. As an ode to my ancestry, I have used these special plants in this new creation. Wild sage harvested in our pastures and sweetgrass from my mom’s garden. Both are found in the western prairies, have similar cultural significance + medicinal properties. Used in smudging and in ceremony by different indigenous cultures to promote purification and positive energy. Sweetgrass has a fragrance of “honey vanilla over the scent of river water and black earth. The sweet smelling hair of Mother Earth.” - a perfect description by Robin Wall Kimmerer, an indigenous botanist and author of Braiding Sweetgrass.
Sage is a more minty, earthy smell that gives a clarifying aura. Both contain anti-inflammatory and microbial properties and have been used by indigenous communities for time immemorial as two of the four sacred medicines.
No essential oils added. Safe for everyone including newborns and breast feeding mothers.
* improved texture from last year* - infusing herbs into tallow is a delicate process. I have worked hard this year to improve texture on all recipes. Tallow and carrier oils are different particle sizes making it difficult to create a smooth even texture. Infusing herbs adds different particles which makes it even more difficult, but I'm quite proud of this batch! If you are unhappy at all I always offer refunds/replacements for faulty jars and one refund per client if my tallow is just not for you.

Sage + Sweetgrass
What is tallow?
Tallow has been used in various cultures as skincare for thousands of years. It is rendered beef fat, specifically suet (organ fat) Once fat is heated it liquifies into a smooth yellow oil separated from the tissues. My tallow is sourced from either my own grass-fed and finished cattle or other local Calgary regenerative farms.
The science:
Tallow shares similar biology to our own skin. It is incredibly compatible with all skin types. It is non-comedogenic (non pore clogging) Can help reduce stretch marks, signs of aging and fine lines, help eczema + psoriasis, prevent scarring, sun burn relief and soothe acne. A true super food for your skin!
Grass fed and finished beef tallow is especially packed full of fat-soluble vitamins, antioxidants, peptides, & omega 3. It protects the skin's surface all day long from free radicals and increases elastin. I highly recommend using as an overnight firming face cream as it retains moisture for hours and hours!
Head to tail sustainability:
Being a byproduct of the beef industry, tallow is the most natural and environmentally friendly skincare product you can purchase! Something my ancestors have been doing for thousands of years is utilizing the entire animal head to tail. Not only is this practice environmentally friendly but honouring the animals in this way is something important to me and a reason why I’ve gotten into this business. My tallow is 100% natural, biodegradable and sourced from regenerative farms.
Natural benefits:
I am at risk for cancer and deal with other health ailments so I recently started looking for more organic foods and beauty products. Discovering tallow, I also discovered how beautifully natural it truly is. Most of the products in your bathroom at this moment have MANY harmful chemicals. You might also notice a warning stating “do not ingest” …. our skin absorbs everything put on it. I know this from being allergic to peanuts: if a peanut touches the skin of someone with a severe allergy the oil can absorb instantly and they can go into anaphylactic shock in only two minutes. If our skin has this ability to absorb everything that touches it, why would we want to put these harmful toxins on it daily? I wanted a skin cream that actually worked and was still 100% natural and tallow was the perfect answer.
Isn’t beef fat on your face a little strange ….?
I also thought this when I first heard about it. But, learning all the facts and seeing how beautiful it is when done correct, I fell in love. If done properly, with a proper fat source, whipped tallow is smooth, white, and the scent is very very mild. I often think the plain tallow scent smells like a fresh pie crust. I like to add essential oils not only for their beautiful fragrances but their amazing healing properties. My “Plain Jane” is fragrance-free.
I use a dry rendering method that takes me 12-16 hours a batch. My method removes the beefy scent and leaves it soft and smooth. "Wet" rendering can strip the nutrients from tallow and the water used can make tallow less shelf stable. Water in tallow allows bacteria to get trapped. I highly recommend not getting any moisture into your jars.
